buenos aires and la plata

on friday we went to the capital buenos aires and to another city called la plata. we had to get up at 2:15 in the morning and went in “micro”, bus to travel, to buenos aires. these busses are sooo cool, you can change the seats into any position you wanna, they have air condition, as much free coffee as ypu want, TV and “stewards”- they acompaign journies, and work as entertainers, travel guides together. on the way to buenos aires we stopped at a restaurant, to have breakfast and went then on to the capital. at about 8 am we arrived to out first destination in buenos aires- la boca. la boca is a part of buenos aires, where almost all houses are painted very colorful and it’s sooo nice :D you can enter to some of the houses, but they are very wonky but i really loooooved it :D afterwards we went to the casa rosada (similiar to the white house in the USA) to see an exhibition about argentinian presidents. then we went to a restaurant to have lunch and afterwars left to la plata, our 2nd place to visit. there isn’t really sth to tell bout la plata cause it was pretty boring, we went to see a church and a museum and that was it. oh and afterwards we went to the “ciudad de los niños” (city of the children) which is like a city in kids-size, pretty cute.

casilda - finally

i’m finally in my host family´s house in casilda, about 50 km close to rosario. my family is sooooo nice, they´re caring about me very well and i really love being here.

i came to see loooots of stuff of casilda this weekend, on friday we made a first tour through the city went to see loooots of relatives of my hostfamily, went to see friends of my host sister and brother etc. on saturday wen went to see friends again and bought my school uniform (gonna post pics soon) and in the eve we had ASADO (typical argentinian barbecue). the asado was pretty delicious except of one thing, i forgot the name but it’s sausage made out of blood and i think it tastes very nasty. afterwards we went to a friends house, just hanging arround.
on sunday my host dad did a tour on the motorcycle with me all arround casilda, was soooo cool :D we saw a lot, for example kinda haciendas with horses and gauchos, but also sad things like for example that even small towns like casilda have slums with houses just made out of steelplanes and foil.
on monday my 1st day in school came, everything was really different from what im used to in germany, for example they fly the argentinian flag every morning with the national anthem being played in the background and afterwards a story from the bible is being read. the worst thing about school is, that i´m currently visiting a class which concentrates on natural sciences such as biology, chemics etc. if i’m pretty lucky i can change to the other class, unless the people in this class a really nice.
speaking and understanding spanish during the classes isn’t as hard as i expected, actually it’s pretty easy :D

all in all i’m feeling great being here in casilda with my host family and i’m really looking forward to the next 11 months :D

first impressions

first of all i have to say that my suitcase arrived today and i’m sooooo glad that i have all my stuff now :)

bueno, i’m spending my first days in argentina now and i have to say i looooooove it. Currently i’m in rosario, a city with like about 1,3 mio. inhabitants, spending a week to preperate me for my exchange. Most of the times we have spanish lessons wich are pretty boring, but besides that we do real cool stuff. for example today we had some tango classes wich was really interesting. We also did a boats trip on the rio paraná today and yesterday we just walked arround in the part of the city we’re located in…

i knew that argentinians drink lots of mate (some kinda green tea which is like the national drink of argentinia) but i didn’t expect it was THAT much!! and i also didn’t expect that it would LOVE it..ot tastes a bit bitter but also has some kinda own taste which i can’t discribe right now :P they even’t put mate-herbs in their food xD

food…another thing i could write sooo much about. Breakfast is pretty boring it’s just sweet stuff like croissants and very bad coffee. But lunch is delicious, they have 3 dishes first some “small” starters like empanadas (delicious little “breads” filled with meat, cheese or other things), then looooots of meat (beef or chicken yummi) and then dessert. Dinner is like the same as lunch. Something you have to know by talking about argentina is that they eat dulce de leche (it’s some cream of caramel, really sweet) all day long. It’s comparable to nutella, with the only difference that they don’t only eat it with bread but also in cookis, icecreams, cake, for dessert and mucho mas. I really love the argentinian food, though i already feel like 20 kg bigger than when i left germany. I’m not that happy bout the drinks, except mate, they ONLY drink coke and almost no water, and if they drink water then without gas.

Today i also went shopping for the 1st time, everything is wayyyy cheaper than in germany (for example converse chucks are about 30€ or less, in germany you pay like 70).

in general everything is cheaper here, not only clothes, for example a coffee in a restaurant is like 2,50 pesos (about 45ct) and my school uniform is gonna cost about 30 US$.

I’m actually very surprised how much spanish i’m able to understand, they speak much more clearlier than i expectected :)

i’ll also upload some fotos soon, just don’t have had time yet..

hope to hear from you soon,

munich - sao paolo - buenos aires - rosario

finally i arrived to argentina!! the journy was pretty long and contained many difficulties: cause of several traffic jams between my hometown and the airport of munich i came like 30 min or sth too late to the check in point in munich, where i was told that it wasn’t even sure if i could fly today or not cause the airline confused some booking stuff. totally dissapointed and i had to wait like to 2 h until i was finally told that everything would go well with my flight to sao paolo.

the flight was ok, i imagined it much more harder and exhausting but it was fine – at least one thing that went well on this trip. But no 5 min passed until the next problem came: the lady at munich airport didn’t check my luggage all the way to buenos aires, but just to sao paolo – which meant that i’d have to pick up my suitcase in sao paolo and check it in a second time for buenos aires. but – of course it shouldn’t be that easy. We were already in the area behind the baggage-pick up, which meant that it was impossible to pick the suitcase up myself.. so i talked to a nice brazilian lady who fixed it for me and made the suitcase being sent to buenos aires. Really really ERLEICHTERT we also managed to check in to buenos aires and afterwards we took a real brazilian coffee with a “torta de frango” (chicken cake). Afterwards i bought some brazilian coconut juice which was pretty fine. While waiting for boarding, we heard a call which told us that, due to some difficulties at buenos aires airport we had to wait 4 (!!) more hours until hour flight would start…

I really wanted to write some postcards from brazil, but unfortunatly it was impossible to find some. So the ones i promised writing a postcard, don’t be dissapointed you’ll get one or more from argentina for sure.

The flight to buenos aires was pretty cool, we saw a lot of brazilian landscape and the food on board was deliciouuuuuus.

But then – after passing the immigration thing, we went to get our suitcases, or rather wanted to get our suitcases :(

mine wasn’t there which means that i’ll have to wait until monday..soooo bad :(

but at least i’m in argentina now and i really like it :)
